I came out and “grew up” in the gay community as a very skinny twink living amongst bears. They helped me build a healthier self-image and showed me the joy of reveling in body types that were not my own.

I’ve also discovered that my identity and my attraction don’t always match nor should they. This doesn’t just apply to the physical — it includes mental, emotional, social, spiritual, sexual aspects too.

As Seth mentioned, complementary is not necessarily the same. Just as (top != bottom) and (dom != sub).

I am. I think we all have body dysmorphia to a degree. I think we all can work on areas that we are more attracted too, but as my husband has said before “birds of a feather, flock together.” Generally you see couples that if they are not the same type, then very complementary. Out of many friends, one of the oddest I know is a hard body builder type in his 40s who is with a very young twink. Somewhat odd to me, but it seems to work for him! So it takes all kinds! Well I’d love to be able to BE my type, tall, dark, lots of hair and pretty well build, but I’m 5’11 and have a little chest hair. I’m working on the built part!! I think that people generally look for themselves in some way, maybe just in the face or eyes. I do that when a guy is not my type but I am attracted to something, not always sure what it is right away. As I get to know him, depending on how it goes, the TYPE stuff goes away OR becomes so important that it’s a no go.
