Prince Charming: Your Ideal Type and You

We all have a physical type that would be our Prince Charming. I’ve heard people say they don’t, but I think they are just lying to themselves. There’s a physical type that you like above the rest. I’m not saying you might not like other types, but there is a type that you likely consider ideal.

Recently I did a poll, as suggested by one of you guys, to find out if you are your own ideal type. Now, when I wrote the poll, it uses a lot of stereotypes, generalities and focuses entirely on looks. We’re all a little shallow… it’s alright to admit it.

Not my perfect ideal type, but he's pretty good.

Not my perfect ideal type, but he's pretty good.

My ideal type is a big thick muscle-head/bodybuilder/powerlifter, dark hair, some body and facial hair, buzzed head, about 5’10 – 6′ tall, around 280 lbs, couple of tattoos and a nice filled out face (not bony). Does that mean if you’re not him,  I’d turn you away… hell no. But if I could build my perfect man, he’d have those features.

As you can see, I’m not that, but you can bet that I’m trying my best to get there. Well, except for the height, I like my guys a little bit shorter than me. It makes for better cuddling.

Are you your own type?

  • Yeah, I'm exactly it (14%, 9 Votes)
  • Not quite, but working on it (45%, 29 Votes)
  • Not even close, but I could never be my own type (26%, 17 Votes)
  • Nope, and I don't want to be. (15%, 10 Votes)

Total Voters: 65

The split on the poll was actually pretty close to what I would have guessed with most people trying to become their ideal type, but not there yet – that includes me.

There are also those that have no interest in becoming their ideal type. For example you have chub and twink chasers, where maybe one guy is my ideal type, but his ideal type is a smooth, twink that weighs 120 lbs. I’m not sure if I’ll ever truly understand this, but if it makes them happy… go for it.

Granted, we do all have an ideal type, but don’t spend your whole life searching for that guy. You’ll likely never find him. Just find guys that make you happy and make your life feel more enjoyable. They should be there to enhance your life, not fill a need of yours. If you’re not happy with yourself first, you’ll never truly be happy with a guy. Spend some time and think about who you are and what you really need/want out of life, go get then, then start to think about finding a man. Until then, you really need to learn how to be single and enjoy it. I know it does suck some times, I’m there with you, but look for the good times.

My leather bear “dads” had a phrase for other large, furry types who are fixated on twinks (a/k/a Twinkies):

    Junk Food Bears

First it made me chuckle, then it made me sad.

While I do find certain traits attractive, I do not have a set type. The picture listed is an atteactive man but but not my type at all. I find overly muscled men very unattractive. But that’s just me, variety is the spice of life.

Attraction isn’t necessarily shallow. Everyone has likes and dislikes. Both stem from a variety of factors: genetics, upbringing, cultural exposure, religion, childhood traumas, etc.

Of course, there is a flip side. “Your” perfect type may not return the sentiment. I find more often than not one should first possess the qualities they seek in others, and not just the physical ones. Sadly, many gay men (and not always thru any fault of their own) fixate on the ideal man w/o ever stopping to consider if they could offer the same in return.

    Sorry I missed the survey.

I’m very fond of big muscle bears, and big young bodybuilders. I might be bearish myself, but I’m no muscle guy and just don’t have the genetics to make that happen, no matter how hard I might have worked (I’m 61 — it’s too late now). I’ve found that most such guys are interested in others just like them :O(

There is a new group on Facebook called Gay/bi Bodybuilders Looking for Regular Guys. Most of the members are regular guys. There is some hope there, but Facebook does not have very good functionality for this kind of activity, it seems.
