Gulf Coast Leather Sir 2010: I’m a Winner

(Sorry for the lack of photos)

Last weekend I competed for the Gulf Coast Leather Sir title at the Dallas Eagle. It was a truly amazing experience, and something that has helped me grow as a person.

Leading up to the contest I met and talked with a lot of people for advice, suggestions and just general confidence boosting. No amount of preparation had prepared me for the weekend I embarked on. Everything was extremely valuable, but as with most things, experiencing it and being told about it are still two very different things.

There were a total of 4 contestants. Sir Dan was my competition for the Sir title, boy Scott was competing for the boy title, and Kristen was competing for the Community Boot Black title. As you can see, I was the only one with actual competition. The others were mostly competing to prove themselves, and they did an amazing job at it. There ended up being a total of 10 judges including all ILSb/ICBB 2010 title holders, and many local leathermen and leatherwomen from the Dallas community.

This title and the ILSb titles are more of a “players” titles. They are target at those that are truly kinky fuckers that love sex, compared to the IML title which is more of a political title.

Friday night the contestants got to the Dallas Eagle around 7:30 for a Meet and Greet with the judges. It was an opportunity to introduce yourself to the judges and let them to to know you. One of the judges, DVNC, scared the hell out of me when I first met her while there were others I immediately connected with. Over the weekend though, I’d get to know them all better and they’d get to discover that I’m more than just a 26 yr old “puppy”.

The schedule for Friday was an extremely low-stress one, but I had another reason to be stressed out. The boy that I had found online and was going to use for a couple portions of the contest on Saturday had vanished. So I used every resource I had, and any helping hand I could to find some boys. I did manage to find amazing boys for both parts.

Friday night I was also educated by Solitaire and her slave (I believe), that in Old Guard traditions, jock straps are not appropriate to wear under jeans. This was news to me, but she was more than willing to cut it off. Just an FYI, it sounds like a jockstrap would come off a lot easier than one might imagine. It’s easier to just drop your pants when you do it.

The night came and went, leaving me to twist and turn in my bed all night. I couldn’t sleep past 6:30am and got some breakfast. I spent the morning before everything started working on my speech more. Before the contest, I was the most worried about my fantasy scene and the demo portion. Once I actually got there I was the most worried about my speech.

The afternoon contained the interview and non-judged demo portions of the contest at the Dallas Eagle. All while there were different bdsm/leather workshops going on.

I was the second to be interviewed. They called me into a section of the Eagle that had been portioned off with all 10 judges seated at a table. One of my mentors had told me to shake every judges hand before and after the interview. It was also a fun game to try to remember all their names. I actually did better than I imagined. The interview was supposed to be 10 minutes, but they allowed it to go over. After about the 4th questions, all my nerves and stress just faded away for rest of the weekend. I had some big problems with history questions, such as:

  • What important event happened in 1969? (Stonewall)
  • When was the Leather Pride flag created? (1989 by Tony DeBlase)
  • How do you prefer to play – RACK or SSC? And what do they mean? (I knew RACK [Risk Aware Consensual Kink] and what SSC was about, but didn’t know SSC meant Safe, Sane and Consensual)

If you’re in a situation like that, and you think you might know… go for it. If you don’t, let the judges know you’ll look it up and get back to them. Just make sure you remember WHAT judge asked you the question, what exactly the question was and get back to them QUICKLY. If you’re going to compete in something like this, let me know and I can try to help you out.

After the interviews were over and the boot black’s technical shine, we moved onto the Sir demos. It was just 10 minutes of non-judged play with a boy to just show that you really are a “player”/kinky fucker. I strapped my boy to a St Andrews Cross facing me, then started torturing his nips and balls… for 10 minutes. It was a great time, but when I do things in public, everyone else fades away.

It was then time for us to rest, and time for me to memorize my speech. I had some great help from a couple friends writing and revising it. It took some time, but I finally memorized it too.

I had to get all my gowns and accessories packed up for the evening’s on-stage portions, then it was back to the Eagle. In case you haven’t figured it out, the Eagle was pretty much my home for the weekend.

The first portion was Bar Wear, which I wore might skin-hugging Nasty Pig jeans, my simple leather suspenders and a gauntlet/wristband. Once I got on stage I was a little confused as to what I was supposed to do, but it was pretty much walk up, twirl, seduce the audience/judges, and 30 seconds later… get off the stage.

What I wore for the Formal Leather portion. Just add an armband.

The next portion was the Leather Image/Formal Leather and speech. It was time to make sure I’d truly memorized my speech. I had listened to my competitors. It was good and very natural. It got out who he was, but no real purpose or message. As I mentioned in my decision to compete or not, I wanted to get out a message about getting younger people into the community. I got on stage and got about the first 4 sentences exactly as I had memorized, from there I couldn’t even tell you what I actually said. It was in line with my message, but ended up being nothing close to script. Feel free to read my original speech.

Next up was what everyone really comes to events like these to see… the jock/physique portion. Like a lot of places, Texas has a law where you have to have a 1″ strap covering your ass crack. I don’t like the feel of thong jocks, so I decided to go with a wrestling singlet, wrestling boots and a coach’s whistle. As the music played I stripped down my singlet so it was just half on, did some pushups and just showed off my body. One of the judges did say they wish they had seen my exposed ass.

The last major item for the evening was the fantasy scene. Each contest region has a theme for the scene. The Gulf Coast theme was White Collar. A friend of mine helped me get a different boy for the fantasy scene. He played the role of an office assistant after work looking at some naughty, gay, kinky stuff on his computer and a laptop bag filled with kinky toys and my jockstrap. I went up pulled his chair away from the computer, went through all the toys, and eventually duct taped him to his office chair, then cut his shirt off and started torturing him. During which my nice dress pants split open right at the ass.

After that, it was time to change and wait for the results. I was up on stage with the other contestants and did the best job I could over the weekend. So regardless of the results, I was extremely happy with everything that had happened. I met some amazing people and everything felt right. I didn’t compromise my integrity, do anything to bring down my competitor, or give up and quit. They announced that Dan (my competitor  had won the Sir title, boy Scott won the boy title and Kristin the Community Boot Black title.

It would have been nice to win, but I have no regrets. After the contest every judge told me they were very impressed with me and that truly made it feel worth it. I had even been told before the contest that I didn’t have a chance against Dan. It’s because of all this, that while I may not have won the contest, like the title says… I’m a winner.

This may have been my first leather contest, but it’s certainly not my last… I’ll be back.

    Great post, Chris!

And btw.. I think Solitaire’s issue with the jock was not so much that you were wearing it, but that it was peeping up above your jeans. (She almost did the same thing to Dan in the middle of his non-judged demo.)
